ACC PickOff Donation Went to Interact of Wake County

Interact of Wake County Holiday BazaarEvery week during football season, ten bloggers from along with two guests, picked five ACC games. Each correct game was worth a point. We kept track of the standings throughout the year and the winning blogger at the end of the year won the opportunity to donate a 30-person party pack to non-profit of his or her choice.

With a stirring comeback, Lauren Brownlow came from behind to finish in a tie with Patrick Johnson atop the leaderboard after fourteen weeks, and won by virtue of the tiebreaker. An incredible performance down the stretch!

Lauren’s charity of choice was Interact of Wake County.

“Saturday was amazing! We had about 100 families enjoy a special day and enjoy an even more special holiday! Thank you again for all your support!!” said Brittany Sandefur of Interact of Wake County.

We are grateful to serve those who serve our communities. Happy Holidays!

American Red Cross Typhoon Fundraiser Supported by Smithfield’s Chicken ‘N Bar-B-Q

On December 7th, 2013 at the Harrington Grove Swim Club, a Holiday Fundraiser Event was held to benefit the Philippine Red Cross Typhoon Appeal. Live music, delicious food, and a great auction helped to raise close to $5,000.

Mark Armstrong, lead sports anchor on WTVD, and wife Mae delivered all donations to the local office for the American Red Cross this week.

You can still help by donating directly to the American Red Cross.

Smithfield’s Chicken ‘N Bar-B-Q donated food for the event along with a gift basket and a 20 person Party Pack for the silent auction.

We’d like to congratulate Tisha Powell from ABC 11 News who won the Smithfield Chicken ‘N Bar-B-Q Gift Basket, and Mr. & Mrs. Gillies as the winners of the Smithfield Chicken ‘N Bar-B-Q 20 Person Pack Party.

Smithfield’s Chicken ‘N Bar-B-Q is offering a little friendly competition to two North Carolina universities and benefiting a local non-profit. Last year we had a #FeedtheRivalry competition between NC State and UNC during their football game. The winner was UNC. UNC student body president, Will Leimenstoll, got to choose which non-profit would receive Smithfield’s Chicken ‘N Bar-B-Q 50 person party pack. His choice was Community Empowerment Fund (CEF), a student group that gives micro loans and assistance to homeless people and other disadvantaged members of the Chapel Hill community.

Depending on the university that wins this Saturday’s football game, Smithfield’s Chicken ‘N Bar-B-Q will donate a 50 person party pack to a non-profit of the student body president’s choice. Student body presidents are Christy Lambden @christyUNC for UNC and Alex Parker @alexjonesparker for NCSU. The winning university’s student body president will decide how the 50 person party pack will be used. The party pack can be used at any time and in any capacity. It can feed people served by the non-profit, the volunteers of the non-profit, or perhaps as food for a fundraiser for the non-profit. The 50 person party pack includes:
  • Bar-B-Q
  • Chicken
  • Cole slaw
  • Potato salad
  • Hushpuppies
  • Sweet Tea
  • Ice and paper products
Smithfield’s Chicken ‘N Bar-B-Q will also deliver the meal to the non-profit chosen. Follow the #feedtherivalry on Twitter @scnbnc. You can get in on the action by helping us get the hashtag #feedtherivalry to trend. Simply tweet or re-tweet about this friendly competition all during the game. Make sure to follow along because there might be a special treat mentioned too. Good luck and may the best team win!

Cary NC Community Emergency Response Team Citizen Training

CERT Class 06092013w2In June 2013, our Morrisville location provided lunch to the Cary Community Emergency Response Team’s Citizen Training. Cary CERT held an intense 20-hour course that provided classroom and hands-on training for everything dealing with an emergency. Students learned first aid, how to set up an emergency site, how to put out a small fire, and how to take care of themselves and their neighbors during a fire (just to name a few items). At the end of the course, there is a simulated scenario that uses all the skills just taught in the class. The "victims" were moulaged to look as gory as possible and they act out their injuries. “It was a very successful class, in part, thanks to Smithfield Chicken, for providing a wonderful lunch for our class,” said Julie Carlino, fundraising chair for Cary CERT Association. Cary CERT Association works with the Cary Fire Department and are advised by Cary Fire Department Battalion Chief Ed Moore. The Fire Department has trained over 300 citizens in Cary to be CERT responders.
