Smithfield’s Chicken ‘N Bar-B-Q® Announces 33rd Store with New Jacksonville Location

Friday, July 6th, 2012

4,900 square foot of fried chicken, bar-b-q, hushpuppies, and sweet tea set to fulfill hungry locals and travelers alike with opening of second Jacksonville, NC location

(Cary, NC) – Smithfield’s Chicken ‘N Bar-B-Q® (SCNB) is pleased to announce the opening of a 33 rd location of the NC-based restaurant brand. The new store officially opened Tuesday, June 19th, at 424 Yopp Road in Jacksonville.

The latest opening for the popular quick-serve restaurant concept boasts an impressive 4,900 square feet and can seat approximately 140 diners hungry for the brand’s famous fried chicken and Eastern North Carolina style bar-b-q.

The second of two Jacksonville locations for SCNB also helps to satisfy a very particular segment of the North Carolina population, which Smithfield’s Chicken ‘N Bar-B-Q is proud to serve: our state’s locally-stationed members of the military. Statements like those of Kelly J Shannon, Jr. are common on the SCNB Facebook page, Twitter, and email inboxes – “Hands down my favorite place to eat when I was stationed in NC.” Both the latest Yopp Road location and the other Jacksonville location on Gum Branch Road are less than a 15 minute drive from Camp Lejeune’s Main Gate and Visitor Center.

The new Jacksonville location, as well as all 32 other locations, is currently operating under “Summer Hours”: 10:00 a.m. until 10:00 p.m., Sunday through Thursday, and 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.

“Onslow County is one of the state’s oldest counties, but it’s certainly not slowing down by any means,” says Richard Averitte, Marketing Director of Smithfield’s Chicken ‘N Bar-B-Q. “Onslow County continues to grow and offer new opportunities to its residents and visitors every year and we are very excited to have opened our 33rd location in this part of the state,” adds Averitte.

Where Would You Send Bar-B-Q?

Tuesday, February 22nd, 2011

Smithfield’s Chicken ‘N Bar-B-Q posted on our facebook page one day the question: “where would you send Bar-B-Q?”

Mark Dove, a SCNB fan from Wake Forest, NC, told us about his Aunt Brock and how he would send her a taste of North Carolina bar-b-q. The following is Mark’s story:

It starts with my aunt, Ms. Reba Brock. She has been a foster parent for over 45 years – fostering kids from infant to 17 years of age. During those many years she has fully adopted and taken on as her own about seven or eight of those children. Some of those children lived with her until they were 18 and were out on their own after high school and went to college. Two of the children she adopted were special needs children. Robert, with Downs Syndrome, is currently 45 yrs old and still lives with her. And Timmy, blind and mentally handicapped (with many other health problems), passed away a few years ago of kidney failure at age 38. Both of these kids have been with her from ages four to five years old.

Aunt Brock was residing in Surveyor, WV. In 2008 her house that she had been living in since the 70′s caught fire and burned down. Without enough insurance money to rebuild, my two cousins and I decided to donate our time and travel – using money only for materials, not labor, to rebuild. We can only travel on some weekends so it has been a long process but we are close to having it finished.

We travel from North Carolina to West Virginia about two weekends a month except in winter it shuts us down for about three months due to all the ice and snow they get there. With only three of us working on it, doing everything from framing to plumbing and all other trades, it takes a long time to rebuild. Thanks again the food! Sorry I couldn’t be there enjoy, but it fed many great people in my family.

Thank YOU for sharing your Aunt Brock’s story with us, Mark! The SCNB family was proud to send bar-b-q and more to West Virginia and they were kind enough to send a few pictures for us to share.

So, where would YOU send bar-b-q?

Smithfield’s Chicken ‘N Bar-B-Q(R) Supports the Bald Entrepreneurs during 2010 St. Baldrick’s Event

Smithfield’s Chicken ‘N Bar-B-Q® Supports the Bald Entrepreneurs during 2010 St. Baldrick’s Event
Fundraising team proves that it’s just not an “After-Shave” Party without Smithfield’s Chicken ‘N Bar-B-Q

(Cary, NC) – Smithfield’s Chicken ‘N Bar-B-Q® (SCNB) is proud to announce that the North Carolina-based restaurant brand was once again able to support local St. Baldrick’s team, the Bald Entrepreneurs, this year in their efforts to raise money for research focused on eliminating childhood cancers.

The team at Smithfield’s Chicken ‘N Bar-B-Q® have always known that “it’s just not a tailgate without Smithfield’s Chicken ‘N Bar-B-Q”, and the Bald Entrepreneurs have proved that the same goes for an “After-Shave” Party. Smithfield’s provided fresh bar-b-q, delicious side items, and crowd favorites – hush puppies and sweet tea – for the team’s post-shave party that continued raising funds even after the day’s earlier shave event. Fundraisers shaved their heads at The Hibernian’s annual fundraiser event on Saturday, February 27th, 2010. Smithfield’s provided goodie bags for the 60 team members who shaved their heads that included gift certificates, shirts, and koozies.

“Smithfield’s Chicken ‘N Bar-B-Q is happy to be part of this most worthy cause. As we are grateful to serve our customers, we are also grateful to serve our community”, says Richard Averitte, Marketing Director for Smithfield’s Chicken ‘N Bar-B-Q. “The Bald Entrepreneurs team provides a tremendous amount of support to the St. Baldrick’s program and we are happy to be a part of that effort.”

The Bald Entrepreneurs surpassed their fundraising goal of $35,000 and are now on their way to the $39,000 mark. To find out more or to donate to the Bald Entrepreneurs team, visit their official team page at http://www.stbaldricks.org/teams/baldentrepreneurs. Chris Wright, founder of the Bald Entrepreneurs team, noted some strong statistics for supporting the group and its participation the in St. Baldrick’s program. Between 2005 and 2009, St. Baldrick’s has issued nearly $42 million in research grants ($12 million in 2009 alone) and funds more in childhood cancer research grants than any other organization, except the U.S. government. The Bald Entrepreneurs team made up approximately 11% of the shaves at the local event yet captured nearly 20% of all donations for the Hibernian Restaurant & Pub.

According to the St. Baldrick’s website, on March 17, 2000, reinsurance executives Tim Kenny, John Bender, and Enda McDonnell turned their industry’s St. Patrick’s Day party into a benefit for kids with cancer. The three planned to raise “$17,000 on the 17th,” recruiting 17 colleagues to raise $1,000 each to be shorn. Instead, the first St. Baldrick’s event raised over $104,000! Volunteers shave their heads in solidarity with kids fighting cancer and family and friends give generously – worldwide.  The St. Baldrick’s Foundation uses the donations to fund more in childhood cancer research grants than any organization except the United States Government.

Grateful To Serve Those Who Volunteer

Tuesday, January 26th, 2010

Horne Memorial United Methodist Church in Clayton, N.C.  has engaged in mission work in Haiti for years and operates the Ryan Epps Orphanage located there. Their missions have included ongoing projects such as building wells, providing food and clothing, and improving housing.  In light of the recent tragedy in Haiti,  the church has become a center for donated medical and health supplies headed to the earthquake-stricken country. The church is using donated warehouse space to store the donated supplies and volunteers are preparing them for shipping. Our Clayton location recently donated a meal to feed those volunteers, some of whom took the day off from work.  We are grateful to serve those who serve and we commend the work of Horne Memorial UMC.

Twenty-Four Years And Counting!

Friday, October 2nd, 2009

We would like to recognize Ms. Beverly Creech of our McCuller’s Crossroads location. Monday marked Ms. Creech’s twenty-fourth year with Smithfield’s Chicken ‘N Bar-B-Q!  Ms. Creech started in our Clayton store and since then you have probably seen her smiling face in our Garner, Morrisville, Knightdale or Smithfield locations. The Smithfield’s Chicken’ N Bar-B-Q culture can be summed up in one phrase -“Grateful to serve”. Ms. Creech certainly embodies this phrase. Over the years she has tirelessly worked to serve our customers and we appreciate all she has done.  Thank you, Ms. Creech!
