(Cary, NC) – Smithfield’s Chicken ‘N Bar-B-Q® (SCNB) is proud to announce their support of Activate Good, a North Carolina a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that works to “activate volunteers and inspire a culture of helping others to ensure that local causes get the help they need to serve our community” by joining its inaugural Corporate Volunteer Council as the second North Carolina corporate to do so.
Smithfield’s Chicken ‘N Bar-B-Q®’s has a strong history of regularly supporting community organizations and deserving projects, and hopes to inspire other corporate donors to join them in their support of the organization that “inspire(s) a culture of helping others”, as well. The Activate Good Corporate Volunteer Council is a “membership-based alliance through which companies network with one another, bolster their employee volunteer programs, and help devise strategies to boost volunteerism in Raleigh and the greater Triangle”, according to Activate Good’s Tom Zajkowski, Activate Good Corporate Relations chair.
Already providing thousands of dollars in community support annually through food and financial donations, Smithfield’s Chicken ‘N Bar-B-Q® aims to collaborate with other members of the inaugural Council in an effort to work together to increase the reach and impact of their individual projects where opportunities for collaboration and volunteer development may exist.
“One business supporting a local cause, or many causes of the course of a year, can only do but so much,” says Richard Averitte, Marketing Director of Smithfield’s Chicken ‘N Bar-B-Q®. “But when you combine our corporate efforts with those of other businesses with a focus on corporate responsibility through an organization like Activate Good, the actual impact on our communities that we serve can grow exponentially.”
Amber Smith, President of Activate Good says, “We’ve seen first hand the generosity and community spirit of Smithfield’s Chicken ‘N Bar-B-Q and its people. We know they’ll bring that spirit to the Corporate Volunteer Council and we are beyond excited to have them on board!”

Volunteer blood donors on Monday received delicious support in appreciation for their time and efforts – eastern NC bar-b-q and other SCNB menu favorites
Smithfield’s Chicken ‘N Bar-B-Q® (SCNB) is pleased to announce their recent participation as a meal sponsor for Rex Blood Center in Raleigh, NC. On Monday, July 16, Smithfield’s Chicken ‘N Bar-B-Q® provided lunches for blood drive donors at Rex Blood Center.
Rex Blood Services is a not-for-profit, community blood bank dedicated to providing a safe, adequate blood supply to patients at Rex Hospital and other area hospitals. In 1962, Rex Blood Services began as Raleigh’s first community blood donor facility. Their mission is to provide the highest standard of care and service to area blood donors and patients, while promoting the importance of community participation and awareness of the need for, and importance of, blood donation.

SCNB Donates Lunch to Volunteers at Rex Blood Services
“When Sandra Brooks of Rex Blood Services came to us and told us that ‘every day in the US, over 32,000 blood transfusions take place’ and that many of them occur in our Triangle-area hospitals, often benefiting patients fighting long-term illnesses such as cancer and sickle cell anemia, we knew we wanted to help support them in whatever way that we, as a restaurant brand, could”, says Richard Averitte, Marketing Director for Smithfield’s Chicken ‘N Bar-B-Q®. “Treating those life-sustaining volunteers who donate blood to lunch, essentially, is something we took great pride in being able to do”, Averitte added.

SCNB Donates Lunch to Volunteers at Rex Blood Services
Sandra Brooks of Rex Blood Services explains from a blood donor’s perspective: “Our donors know that Smithfield’s applauds their volunteerism and community service. They enjoy knowing that these organizations are invested in the lives of people around them.”

4,900 square foot of fried chicken, bar-b-q, hushpuppies, and sweet tea set to fulfill hungry locals and travelers alike with opening of second Jacksonville, NC location
(Cary, NC) – Smithfield’s Chicken ‘N Bar-B-Q® (SCNB) is pleased to announce the opening of a 33 rd location of the NC-based restaurant brand. The new store officially opened Tuesday, June 19th, at 424 Yopp Road in Jacksonville.
The latest opening for the popular quick-serve restaurant concept boasts an impressive 4,900 square feet and can seat approximately 140 diners hungry for the brand’s famous fried chicken and Eastern North Carolina style bar-b-q.
The second of two Jacksonville locations for SCNB also helps to satisfy a very particular segment of the North Carolina population, which Smithfield’s Chicken ‘N Bar-B-Q is proud to serve: our state’s locally-stationed members of the military. Statements like those of Kelly J Shannon, Jr. are common on the SCNB Facebook page, Twitter, and email inboxes – “Hands down my favorite place to eat when I was stationed in NC.” Both the latest Yopp Road location and the other Jacksonville location on Gum Branch Road are less than a 15 minute drive from Camp Lejeune’s Main Gate and Visitor Center.
The new Jacksonville location, as well as all 32 other locations, is currently operating under “Summer Hours”: 10:00 a.m. until 10:00 p.m., Sunday through Thursday, and 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.
“Onslow County is one of the state’s oldest counties, but it’s certainly not slowing down by any means,” says Richard Averitte, Marketing Director of Smithfield’s Chicken ‘N Bar-B-Q. “Onslow County continues to grow and offer new opportunities to its residents and visitors every year and we are very excited to have opened our 33rd location in this part of the state,” adds Averitte.

Through the end of the year, specially-marked bottles of Heinz ketchup served at SCNB will help raise funds and awareness for veterans and active duty military.
________________________________________
(Cary, NC) – Smithfield’s Chicken ‘N Bar-B-Q® (SCNB) is honored to announce a new way for customers of the NC-based restaurant brand to honor our country’s veterans and help raise money for the USO and Wounded Warrior Project™.
Teaming up with Heinz, the house-favorite ketchup brand served in all 33 SCNB locations, participants will be able to honor veterans and active duty service members by sending a digital “Thank you” card to active duty service members, help Heinz reach its $200,000 donation goal to Wounded Warrior Project, and learn about other ways to get involved and support our troops.
In support of this initiative, every 20oz “Upside Down” bottle of ketchup distributed by Heinz during this time will have a special label that includes a QR code that patrons can scan to have their participation count toward the $200,000 fundraising goal. Heinz will donate $0.57 to WWP for every thank you card sent or page “Like” on Facebook, up to $200,000. Customers can also text the word “THANKS” to 57000 to participate, as well.
SCNB will remind patrons who visit their 33 North Carolina locations to participate with “Our Turn to Serve” place mats and table tents detailing the support campaign, as well.
Additionally, a donation will be made to Wounded Warrior Project™ on behalf of Heinz and US Foods™ for every case of the specially-marked Heinz® Ketchup product purchased between 10/31/11 through 11/25/11.
Tweet to Support
On Friday, November 11, 2011, Smithfield’s Chicken ‘N Bar-B-Q® will sweeten the Heinz fundraising efforts by donating $1.00 for every tweet that includes the hashtag #TYVETS to the Wounded Warrior Project™.
“We have always admired Smithfield’s Chicken ‘n Bar-B-Q®’s commitment to serving those who serve our country,” says Ed Sautro of Heinz North America. “Their longstanding tradition of being a friend to the military made them an obvious partner choice for us during this special campaign,” adds Sauntro.

Two weeks ago, we asked folks to share their memories of their first SCNB bar-b-q sandwich with us in exchange for some always handy SCNB gift certificates and a chance to win a bar-b-q lunch for 20 delivered! We got some great submissions – they made us quite nostalgic! Here are some of our favorites:
Jasmine M. on facebook told us:
Age 16! Taste of the Bar-b-q just seemed to melt in my mouth! Big and better difference then the stuff up north! Gotta love Smithfield’s!
James P. left us a comment commemorating his very first visit:
Ate there for the first time ever today, It was great BBQ
Forrest said on our blog:
Stopped on the way to the beach once at the one in Warsaw. Best pulled pork sandwich ever! I make it a point to stop there on the way to the beach with the family every time now.
Dwight left us this great blog comment:
The first time I had the pleasure of sinking my teeth into a pork sandwich was June 2000. My son-in-law was stationed at Cherry Point N.C. in the Marines. They said they found the Barb b que place in N. C. With it I had potato salad and baked beans and they knocked my socks off. Since then I have been ordering products online. Thanks for GREAT products.
Many thanks to every single one of you who left us your comments, shared your stories with us, and continue to allow us to serve you our crowd-pleasing bar-b-q year after year! We hope you enjoy your gift certificates and look forward to announcing our next delicious social media contest soon. College football is right around the corner after all…

Every now and then we have the wonderful opportunity to hear from a customer who reminds us just how far delicious food and friendly service can go in making one’s day… and sometimes it’s even their BIG DAY!
Check out the email below for a look at how our Siler City location helped save the day recently:
I know that often you hear nothing but complaints, however, I have a praise for Vickie and her staff for an outstanding job and for saving the day. The story is: May 21st was my wedding day and the wedding was outside at our farm for 80 people. What should have been a stress-free event, turned into a nightmare. Our caterer did not show.
My sister-in-law called Smithfield’s in Siler City and placed an order for 80 people with no explanation of why that much food in such a short notice (30 to 45 mins). When they got there, Vickie and her team was working on the order. Vickie asked “what is the event”. My sister-in-law explained and Vickie hurried the team up and packed the back of the SUV in a manner that nothing spilled. The food was there and setup within 10 mins. of the wedding ending. Without Vickie and her team, my wedding would have been a disaster. My words can not express the gratitude that I have for Smithfield’s, Vickie and her team.
Just wanted you know the GREAT job that the Siler City – Smithfield’s is doing.
A heartfelt “Thank you!” and “Congratulations!” go out to the new Mrs. Culberson and her new husband. On behalf of Vickie, everyone at our Siler City location, and the entire Smithfield’s Chicken ‘N Bar-B-Q family, we wish you both a very happy start to your new life together – we were honored to be part of your big day and look forward to serving you and yours again soon!
Planning an engagement party, rehearsal dinner, wedding reception, or any other event for friends and family? We would love assist you so that you can enjoy a stress-free celebration! From four guests to four hundred, we can handle any size catering or special event need you have planned. Please feel free to contact your neighborhood location or email us anytime at Comments@SCNBNC.com and we’ll be happy to help ensure the food and beverage for your guests goes off without a hitch!

Fundraising team continues “After-Shave” Party tradition with support of Smithfield’s Chicken ‘N Bar-B-Q
________________________________________
(Cary, NC) – Smithfield’s Chicken ‘N Bar-B-Q® (SCNB) is proud to announce that the North Carolina-based restaurant brand is once again supporting local St. Baldrick’s team, the Bald Entrepreneurs, during their 2011 fundraising year efforts which will contribute much-needed funds to research focused on eliminating childhood cancers.
The team at Smithfield’s Chicken ‘N Bar-B-Q® have always known that “it’s just not a tailgate without Smithfield’s Chicken ‘N Bar-B-Q”, and the Bald Entrepreneurs have proved that the same goes for an “After-Shave” Party. Smithfield’s will be providing fresh bar-b-q, delicious side items, and crowd favorites – hush puppies and sweet tea – for the team’s post-shave party that will continue raising funds even after the day’s shave event. The Bald Entrepreneur team has grown so much over the past few years that they will be hosting their own event at The Factory in Wake Forest on Saturday, March 6th from 12:00pm until 6:00pm, with the “After-Shave” Party taking place from 6:30pm until 9:30pm. The team’s theme for 2011 is “Going Bald So Kids Don’t Have To”.
“Smithfield’s Chicken ‘N Bar-B-Q is happy to continue to be part of this most worthy cause. The Bald Entrepreneurs do an amazing job every year of serving others and we are grateful to be able to support them in their work”, says Richard Averitte, Marketing Director for Smithfield’s Chicken ‘N Bar-B-Q. “Each year this group sets new goals for their team and they are inspiring to everyone touched by their mission to help eliminate childhood cancers.”
The Bald Entrepreneurs have set a fundraising goal of $60,000. To assist The Bald Entrepreneurs with their fundraising, Smithfield’s Chicken ‘N Bar-B-Q® will be donating 25¢ for each tweet that includes the hashtag “#BarBQforBaldricks” that is posted on Twitter on Saturday, March 5, 2011, from 12:01am EST until 11:59pm EST.
To find out more or to donate to the Bald Entrepreneurs team, visit their official team page at http://www.stbaldricks.org/events/thefactory2011. Chris Wright, founder of the Bald Entrepreneurs team, provided strong statistics for supporting the group and its participation in the St. Baldrick’s program: between 2005 and 2009, St. Baldrick’s has issued nearly $42 million in research grants ($12 million in 2009 alone) and funds more in childhood cancer research grants than any other organization, except the U.S. government.
According to the St. Baldrick’s website, on March 17, 2000, three insurance executives Tim Kenny, John Bender, and Enda McDonnell turned their industry’s St. Patrick’s Day party into a benefit for kids with cancer. The three planned to raise “$17,000 on the 17th,” recruiting 17 colleagues to raise $1,000 each to be shorn. Instead, the first St. Baldrick’s event raised over $104,000! Volunteers shave their heads in solidarity with kids fighting cancer and family and friends give generously – worldwide. The St. Baldrick’s Foundation uses the donations to fund more in childhood cancer research grants than any organization except the United States Government.
