Smithfield’s Chicken ‘N Bar-B-Q® Announces 33rd Store with New Jacksonville Location

Friday, July 6th, 2012

4,900 square foot of fried chicken, bar-b-q, hushpuppies, and sweet tea set to fulfill hungry locals and travelers alike with opening of second Jacksonville, NC location

(Cary, NC) – Smithfield’s Chicken ‘N Bar-B-Q® (SCNB) is pleased to announce the opening of a 33 rd location of the NC-based restaurant brand. The new store officially opened Tuesday, June 19th, at 424 Yopp Road in Jacksonville.

The latest opening for the popular quick-serve restaurant concept boasts an impressive 4,900 square feet and can seat approximately 140 diners hungry for the brand’s famous fried chicken and Eastern North Carolina style bar-b-q.

The second of two Jacksonville locations for SCNB also helps to satisfy a very particular segment of the North Carolina population, which Smithfield’s Chicken ‘N Bar-B-Q is proud to serve: our state’s locally-stationed members of the military. Statements like those of Kelly J Shannon, Jr. are common on the SCNB Facebook page, Twitter, and email inboxes – “Hands down my favorite place to eat when I was stationed in NC.” Both the latest Yopp Road location and the other Jacksonville location on Gum Branch Road are less than a 15 minute drive from Camp Lejeune’s Main Gate and Visitor Center.

The new Jacksonville location, as well as all 32 other locations, is currently operating under “Summer Hours”: 10:00 a.m. until 10:00 p.m., Sunday through Thursday, and 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.

“Onslow County is one of the state’s oldest counties, but it’s certainly not slowing down by any means,” says Richard Averitte, Marketing Director of Smithfield’s Chicken ‘N Bar-B-Q. “Onslow County continues to grow and offer new opportunities to its residents and visitors every year and we are very excited to have opened our 33rd location in this part of the state,” adds Averitte.

Always Grateful to Serve – Especially in Times of Need

Friday, April 22nd, 2011

As all of our North Carolina customers are aware – and many of you out of area folks may have been made aware of by national news outlets – Central and Eastern North Carolina were hit with severe thunderstorms and a record number of tornadoes on Saturday, April 16, 2011. The News and Observer reports that $115 million dollars worth of damage was done in Raleigh, the state’s capital city, alone.

As our longtime patrons know, Smithfield’s Chicken ‘N Bar-B-Q is always grateful to serve, and that is never more important than in times of true need. Many of our locations across the state had opportunities to assist those affected over the past week and we are happy to have been able to do so.

Micro, NC
Hats off to the staff at our Garner, NC (Highways 40 and 42) location for supplying food for over 50 of the tornado victims in Micro, NC!

Raleigh, NC
“We were VERY happy to connect Smithfield’s Chicken ‘N Bar-B-Q with our friends over at the Raleigh Rescue Mission last night – they literally came to the rescue, providing 86 lbs. of BBQ and more for dinner when the organization’s refrigerator had gone out!” – via Amber Smith of Me^3, facebook.com/SCNBNC

Camp Lejeune, NC

The End of an Era in Jacksonville, NC

Thursday, October 7th, 2010

Our location on Western Boulevard in Jacksonville, NC has closed its doors.

Western Boulevard’s last day was Sunday, September 26th and the location has been acquired by the N.C. Department of Transportation. The store will be demolished to make way for an extension of White Street, the first step in creating an off ramp from the U.S. 17 bypass. (You can read more about the entire construction plans online at http://www.jdnews.com/news/western-82967-street-white.html.)

For over a quarter century, Western Boulevard has been grateful to serve the customers of Jacksonville. SCNB headquarters estimates that the location, which opened in 1982, served over 1,000,000 meals during its tenure!

But, have no fear bar-b-q fans, we are currently looking for a new location in Jacksonville and the Gum Branch Road location (still within town limits) is still just right around the corner!

Were you one (or several!) of those 1,000,000 meals served? We have set a Facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/pages/Tribute-to-Smithfields-Chicken-N-Bar-B-Qs-Western-Blvd-Location/162641897094864 for the Western Boulevard location to give customers an opportunity to share their memories of the store. Thanks to Camp Lejeune, home of the United States Marine Corps, Western Boulevard has introduced people from all over the world their first taste of authentic Eastern N.C. Bar-B-Q.

We would love to hear from Jacksonville SCNB fans and encourage you to share your bar-b-q experiences!
