The 5th Annual Joey O Bocce Classic was held on April 29th at Cardinal Gibbons High School in Raleigh, NC, to benefit the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
48 teams raised a total of $34,000 from this event and more monies are currently being donated through the organization’s website, www.joeyobocceclassic.org .
Smithfield’s Chicken ‘N Bar-B-Q donated lunches for all of the participants in the tournament that included players from “up North” who were unfamiliar with the savory deliciousness of eastern North Carolina barbeque and, of course, were instant fans.
Marketing Director for Smithfield’s Chicken ‘N Bar-B-Q, Richard Averitte, explains, “The Joey O Bocce Classic is an event that we are proud to support. Helping to find a cure for this disease that affects so many children and young people is part of the Smithfield’s Chicken ‘N Bar-B-Q commitment to our community.”
Elana O’Connell, tournament coordinator, for the Joey O Bocce Classic adds, “We are extremely excited to announce that The 5th Annual Joey O Bocce Classic raised $34,000 to fight, and one day cure, Cystic Fibrosis. Without supporters, players, donors and volunteers like Smithfield’s Chicken ‘N Bar-B-Q, this event would not be possible. Along with hundreds of smiling faces, we had a perfect, Carolina blue day filled with Joe’s spirit.”
