Unmatched quality and freshness make new menu item a tasty complement to longtime menu favorites

(Cary, NC) – Smithfield’s Chicken ‘N Bar-B-Q® (SCNB) is proud to announce that the North Carolina-based restaurant brand has for the first time in 40 years added a fresh new item to its menu: jumbo chicken tenders!

Known across the state as the home of fresh fried chicken and eastern North Carolina style bar-b-q, the addition of fresh, never frozen, hand-breaded, all white meat jumbo chicken tenders is a complementary addition to the fast casual restaurant brand’s classic menu offerings. Jumbo chicken tenders make not only a tasty, easy-to-handle meal for younger patrons, but also are a lunchtime favorite for many, and a welcome addition to dinner plates accompanied by eastern NC bar-b-q, hushpuppies, potato salad, slaw, Brunswick stew, and of course – Smithfield Chicken ‘N Bar-B-Q®’s famous sweet tea. Jumbo chicken tenders are now available individually, as a boneless tender sandwich, as a meal paired with hushpuppies and choice of sides, or as an addition to combination plates.

“Smithfield’s Chicken ‘N Bar-B-Q prides itself on not only having a longstanding history as a quality, family-friendly restaurant, but also on having a menu that isn’t subject to trends. Our patrons know that when they join us at Smithfield’s Chicken ‘N Bar-B-Q, that they’re going to enjoy a fresh, quality meal that is as enjoyable as every visit made in the past”, says Richard Averitte, Marketing Director for Smithfield’s Chicken ‘N Bar-B-Q. “So when we make the decision to add a new featured menu item, patrons know that we have selected a product that not only meets, but also surpasses, our goals for exceptional quality, freshness, and taste.”

The jumbo chicken tenders have been quietly popping up in Smithfield’s Chicken ‘N Bar-B-Q® locations around the state over the past few months as the restaurant brand has eased into the offering of a new menu item. Now that the jumbo chicken tenders have become a fixed menu item in all locations, SCNB is encouraging fans to “Stop in a try a tender!” with a springtime promotion that offers diners a chance to win a $10.00 Smithfield’s Chicken ‘N Bar-B-Q® gift card in exchange for posting a picture on twitter, facebook, or a blog. (Tender-tasters can also submit a picture of their experience to Comments@SCNBNC.com to be entered into the contest, as well.) Winners will be drawn at random weekly through May 31, 2011.

Workin’ for the Weekend

Monday, April 25th, 2011

Ah yes, it’s Monday again. If you’re not exactly thrilled to be heading back into the work week, maybe this story will help add a little flavor to your week!

A few weeks ago on our facebook page (facebook.com/SCNBNC), we posted:

Facebook Friday! Someone in your office tried one of our Jumbo Chicken Tender Sandwiches and going on and on about it while you are stuck at work? How about we deliver lunch to you and your entire office? Post where your work, location and the number of co-workers in your office. One post will be selected at random and have Jumbo Chicken Tender Sandwiches, Hushpuppies and Tea delivered to their office!

We received lots of comments (and of course, likely made some mouths water), but one lucky lady named Kimberly Erwin instantly became the most popular person in the office when our team randomly picked her submission as our SCNB Office Lunch Winner!

Kimberly works at Time Warner Cable in Morrisville, NC and works with 21 other people in her department.

On Wednesday, our Davis Drive location in Morrisvlle, NC packed up 22 of our brand new Jumbo Chicken Tender Sandwiches, dozens of hushpuppies, and a couple of ice cold gallons of our freshly-brewed sweet iced tea and delivered them a few miles down the road to Kim and gang at Time Warner Cable.

We’re trying to find photographic evidence of their lunchtime delivery, but apparently, tender sandwiches and all the extras were so tempting, that they didn’t last long enough for a picture…

Have we got your mouth watering yet? Good! Because you could be our next SCNB Office Lunch Winner! Simply leave a comment here on this blog, post on our facebook page, or email us at Comments@SCNBNC.com with the name and location of your office, the number of people who work in your department or office, and a clever reason why we should pick your team! Deadline to enter is Friday, May 6th.

Good luck you bar-b-q and chicken tender lovers!

Always Grateful to Serve – Especially in Times of Need

Friday, April 22nd, 2011

As all of our North Carolina customers are aware – and many of you out of area folks may have been made aware of by national news outlets – Central and Eastern North Carolina were hit with severe thunderstorms and a record number of tornadoes on Saturday, April 16, 2011. The News and Observer reports that $115 million dollars worth of damage was done in Raleigh, the state’s capital city, alone.

As our longtime patrons know, Smithfield’s Chicken ‘N Bar-B-Q is always grateful to serve, and that is never more important than in times of true need. Many of our locations across the state had opportunities to assist those affected over the past week and we are happy to have been able to do so.

Micro, NC
Hats off to the staff at our Garner, NC (Highways 40 and 42) location for supplying food for over 50 of the tornado victims in Micro, NC!

Raleigh, NC
“We were VERY happy to connect Smithfield’s Chicken ‘N Bar-B-Q with our friends over at the Raleigh Rescue Mission last night – they literally came to the rescue, providing 86 lbs. of BBQ and more for dinner when the organization’s refrigerator had gone out!” – via Amber Smith of Me^3, facebook.com/SCNBNC

Camp Lejeune, NC
Thank you to Smithfield’s Chicken ‘N Bar-B-Q in Jacksonville, NC (Gum Branch location) for their generous donation to the volunteers at TT on Camp Lejeune! – via Kelly, facebook.com/SCNBNC

One of the organizations who left one of the comments above, Me^3, has compiled and is updating a specific page on their website (http://www.me-3.org/tornadorelief2011.html) with donation and volunteer opportunities if you would like to get involved in the Wake County relief areas, as well. For those of you outside of the Wake County area, please feel free to leave a comment below letting us know about opportunities in your local area, as well!

Me^3 ME³ stands for Motivate, Educate, Empower, and Engage. They are a non-profit organization which connects individuals and groups to volunteer opportunities with over 70 local nonprofit partners. Through volunteer service, as well as outreach and education about how to get involved, they strive to create a culture of caring and community involvement in Wake County, North Carolina. You can read more about their work on their website at http://www.me-3.org/, like them on facebook, and follow their updates on twitter.

Many thanks go out to those of you who have already donated your time, supplies, and dollars to your local relief efforts and for your support of our efforts to serve those in need, as well!
