The Summer Youth Employment Program was implemented by the Capital Area Workforce Development Board. This program runs for 7 weeks and was developed to provide a paid work experience for the eligible youth in both Wake and Johnston Counties. Smithfield’s Chicken ‘N Bar-B-Q is proud to say that we have presented job opportunities and training to 13 qualified youths who may not have had a job before, or are from a low-income background. We hope we have provided these individuals with an opportunity that will help them to become productive members of society.

 Smithfield’s Chicken ‘N Bar-B-Q has partnered with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Nash/Edgecombe Counties as a sponsor of the Phil Ford Golf Classic. The event will begin with “Celebrity Golf Challenge” and Black Tie Gala on July 31^st and end with a golf tournament and awards ceremony on August 1^st at Birchwood Country Club. Smithfield’s Chicken ‘N Bar-B-Q will be providing lunch for the awards ceremony.

“The Boys and Girls Clubs are important to a community in that they develop future leaders,” said Richard Averitte, Marketing Director for Smithfield’s Chicken ‘N Bar-B-Q. “The Phil Ford Classic is a wonderful opportunity for business leaders in Nash and Edgecombe Counties to get involved,” he added.

The Boys & Girls Club is a Youth Development Organization dedicated to promoting the health, social, educational, vocational, cultural, character, and leadership development of youth. Rocky Mount native Phil Ford, a former college and professional basketball star and current NBA assistant coach, will join other celebrity personalities in this event. Our Wake Forest location raised almost a $1,00o for the Currin Family at a Spirit Night/cruise-in held this past Sunday. Many customers from the area made personal donations as well, making the event a resounding success. The money raised will be donated to the children of Kelly Currin, who has been missing since 9/08.  Over 150 classic cars were present and fun was had by all. Thank you to Tommy Keith for helping organize and promote the event.

Join us Sunday, July 19th, for an afternoon of classic cars, music and fun as we raise money for the Currin family.
