Tuesday, March 31st, 2009

Cary, NC: Smithfield’s Chicken ‘N Bar-B-Q recently hosted fundraisers for Relay For Life of Vance and Chatham Counties. The company held “Spirit Nights” in their Henderson and Siler City locations, where 25% of the sales from those nights were donated to each county’s Relay For Life chapter.

“Relay For Life is such a great activity because it involves an entire community,” said Richard Averitte, director of marketing for Smithfield’s Chicken ‘N Bar-B-Q. “We like to think our stores are a part of those communities and we feel we should do our part,” he added.

Relay For Life is the American Cancer Society’s signature activity. It offers everyone in a community an opportunity to participate in the fight against cancer. Teams of people camp out at a local high school, park, or fairground and take turns walking or running around a track or path. Each team is asked to have a representative on the track at all times during the event. Relays are an overnight event, up to 24 hours in length.

Smithfield’s Chicken ‘N Bar-B-Q has a 40-year history in serving the finest fried chicken and Eastern North Carolina-style Bar-B-Q. Smithfield’s Chicken ‘N Bar-B-Q has over 30 locations in North Carolina as well as an online store where Bar-B-Q can be shipped. Shipping Bar-B-Q In Smaller Quantities

Thursday, March 26th, 2009

“The BBQ arrived safe and sound Wednesday and tasted great today. The only suggestion I can make is that we had a tough time finding a pot big enough to put a 5-pound bag of BBQ. “  C. Barton- Missouri

While we have had great success shipping our signature Bar-B-Q nationwide, we have had a few comments like the one above or customers write that 5 lbs. of Bar-B-Q is more than they need.  We took these comments to heart and now have begun shipping Bar-B-Q in a smaller quantity, 2.5 lbs.

Order 2.5 lbs. by March 31st, and we’ll throw in a “aw is slaw”  and a  “real men drink sweet tea” t-shirt free with your order. Put the size shirt you need for each in  the “Special Instructions or Comments About Your Order” box during checkout.

How’s the shipping Bar-B-Q process work? Here’s a quick tutorial!

Spirit Night For Morrisville Elementary!

Wednesday, March 25th, 2009

Our Morrisville location had a great turnout for the Spirit Night  held for Morrisville Elementary.  The staff and P.T.A. of the school were great!  The kids were asked to guess the number of jellybeans in a jar for prizes and we played “Are You Smarter Than A Fifth Grader?” with some of the teachers (the kids REALLY enjoyed that). The teachers were good sports and we rewarded their valiant effort with gift certificates.

“So what’s with the hand sink in the dining room?”

Sunday, March 22nd, 2009

Customers often comment on the hand sink in the dining room of our restaurants. They like the fact that they don’t have to go to the restroom to wash up before (or after) a meal. While we do this as a convenience to our customers, there is also some tradition involved.

When the original Smithfield’s Chicken ‘N Bar-B-Q opened in downtown Smithfield in 1964, it was just called Smithfield’s. The location was a next to a  pre-WWII movie theater—a tall brick box with tin ceilings, cloth awnings, and a sink in the dining room so the farmers could wash up before supper.

A lot has changed since those early days. While the hand sink is a convenience to our customers, is also serves as a reminder how some things will never change. We will always be committed to being exceptional hosts, always serving fresh food fast, with superior service and quality – while never wasting time, food, nor forgetting our manners.

These values, along with the hand sink in the dining room, will never leave our restaurants.

March Madness Hits The Triangle Stores!

Saturday, March 21st, 2009

We are believers that competition breeds success. To say our managers are competitive with each other is quite the understatement.  Starting Monday, the managers in our Triangle stores will be caught up in their own March Madness.  The Triangle stores have been paired up against one another and placed in a tournament bracket. The store with the higher percentage of dessert sales for that week will advance to the next round.  This will be continued each week until we have a champion to be crowned on April 20th.  We will keep you updated in the coming weeks. Don’t forget to support your favorite store!

Think you know who will win? Send in your pick to win it all to  comments@scnbnc.com. If you choose the correct winner (you don’t have to fill out the bracket), we will send you one of our “we put the aw in slaw” or “real men drink sweet tea” t-shirts! Submit your pick by Friday, March 27th!
