A Big Thank You from Afghanistan

Tuesday, April 9th, 2013

Recently we sent food over to our Troops stationed in Afghanistan. Wesley Wallace took some photos and sent us back a Big Thank You.

“Good afternoon Mr. Averitte. Recently you sent our unit a generous donation out here in Afghanistan. We were able to have an awesome BBQ. I was able to take some pictures. Again it is people like you who keep the morale high when it is low. I will be back in NC sometime in November and I will be sure to visit SCNB everyday that I am there. Thanks again for your donations, the team thoroughly enjoyed it. Not only did we feed the team, but we feed over 100 personnel.”
Very Respectfully, Wesley S. Wallace CPT, LG

We are grateful to serve.

Say Thank You to All Who Have Served Our Country with Special Heinz Ketchup Bottles

Thursday, November 1st, 2012

Smithfield’s Chicken ‘N Bar-B-Q will feature the “Our Turn to Serve” Heinz Ketchup bottles in all locations to help Americans show their appreciation for those who have served our country.

Here’s how you can say “Thank You”

Scan – Look for the “Our Turn to Serve” Heinz Ketchup bottle on the table and use a smartphone to scan the QR (quick response) code on the back of the Heinz Ketchup bottle, which will bring you to a website.

Personalize – Write your “thank you” note and choose to send your message to a veteran or active duty service member selected by the USO or to one you know personally who has served in the military by entering his or her email address. For each “thank you” note written, Heinz will donate $1 to Wounded Warrior Project, up to $250,000.

Share – Share your message with your friends on Facebook or followers on Twitter and Heinz will donate an additional 57 cents to Wounded Warrior Project® to help reach the donation goal.

The Heinz “Our Turn to Serve” campaign recognizes veterans and raises awareness and money for Wounded Warrior Project® – a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization that honors and empowers Wounded Warriors.

What is a QR code?
A QR Code (short for “Quick Response”) is a barcode that contains data that can be read by the camera on your smartphone. Similar to a link you would click on a computer, scanning the QR code will bring you to a microsite where you can participate in the “Our Turn to Serve” campaign.

What if I don’t have a smart phone?
Consumers can purchase specially marked “Our Turn to Serve” bottles in retail stores, which provide a URL link on the back that will direct consumers to a site where they can participate in the campaign without a smartphone.

Follow the conversation on Twitter using #OurTurnToServe hashtag.

Smithfield’s Chicken ‘N Bar-B-Q® Partners with Heinz to Feature Veterans Support Program

(Cary, NC) – Smithfield’s Chicken ‘N Bar-B-Q® (SCNB) is honored to announce a new way for customers of the NC-based restaurant brand to honor our country’s veterans and help raise money for the USO and Wounded Warrior Project™.

Teaming up with Heinz, the house-favorite ketchup brand served in all 33 SCNB locations, participants will be able to honor veterans and active duty service members by sending a digital “Thank you” card to active duty service members, help Heinz reach its $200,000 donation goal to Wounded Warrior Project, and learn about other ways to get involved and support our troops.

In support of this initiative, every 20oz “Upside Down” bottle of ketchup distributed by Heinz during this time will have a special label that includes a QR code that patrons can scan to have their participation count toward the $200,000 fundraising goal. Heinz will donate $0.57 to WWP for every thank you card sent or page “Like” on Facebook, up to $200,000. Customers can also text the word “THANKS” to 57000 to participate, as well.

SCNB will remind patrons who visit their 33 North Carolina locations to participate with “Our Turn to Serve” place mats and table tents detailing the support campaign, as well.

Additionally, a donation will be made to Wounded Warrior Project™ on behalf of Heinz and US Foods™ for every case of the specially-marked Heinz® Ketchup product purchased between 10/31/11 through 11/25/11.

Tweet to Support
On Friday, November 11, 2011, Smithfield’s Chicken ‘N Bar-B-Q® will sweeten the Heinz fundraising efforts by donating $1.00 for every tweet that includes the hashtag #TYVETS to the Wounded Warrior Project™.

“We have always admired Smithfield’s Chicken ‘n Bar-B-Q®’s commitment to serving those who serve our country,” says Ed Sautro of Heinz North America. “Their longstanding tradition of being a friend to the military made them an obvious partner choice for us during this special campaign,” adds Sauntro.
