senior center luncheon5-2013.1

The month of May is “Older Americans Month” and on May 15th the East Wake Senior Center celebrated the 40th anniversary of the Resources for Seniors (RFS) program. The program also recognized those seniors for their contributions at the center and their contributions within the community.

“May has been Older Americans Month since 1963. Our seniors share many essential talents, wisdom and many of their life experiences. This was our way of celebrating and honoring our seniors all at the same time. Thank you for being a big part of this special day.”

Smithfield’s Chicken ‘N Bar-B-Q® Continues Tradition of Support for Local St. Baldrick’s Fundraising Efforts with Eastern North Carolina Bar-B-Q and Tweets

Tuesday, May 21st, 2013

Even as participation grows to never matched before participants, Smithfield’s Chicken ‘N Bar-B-Q® cooks up creative ways to continue supporting worthy local endeavors with eastern NC flavor and a healthy dose of social media savvy

(Cary, NC) – Smithfield’s Chicken ‘N Bar-B-Q® (SCNB) is once again humbled to celebrate the success of the fundraising chapter of the St. Baldrick’s Foundation known as “The Bald Entrepreneurs” – a group of small business owners and community leaders based in Wake Forest, NC. “The Factory” event location, which annually hosts willing “shavees” and fundraisers who are willing to go bald in support of the non-profit foundation cited as being the “world’s largest private funder of childhood cancer research grants”, takes place at a former northern Wake County commercial manufacturing property that has been renovated to house restaurants, a YMCA location, retail and local recreational facilities.

The restaurant-community partnership started small several years ago with Smithfield’s Chicken ‘N Bar-B-Q® providing donated signature menu items (eastern NC bar-b-q, fried chicken, hush puppies, sides and sweet tea) for the after-party, but has since grown to feature “fundraising boxes” created by the restaurant brand, that allow “The Bald Entrepreneurs” to feed hungry guests while continuing their fundraising efforts throughout the day of shaving.

Fundraising support didn’t end this year with simply feeding fundraisers, either. The support continued across geographic boundaries and was practically limitless when @SCNBNC took to Twitter to continue support for the cause – @SCNBNC Twitter followers were asked to tweet “#BBQbeatscancer” while the restaurant brand promised to donate $1.00 for every tweet of support posted. Almost a week after the first “tweet of support” was posted, Smithfield’s Chicken ‘N Bar-B-Q® Marketing Director Richard Averitte says that he was still counting tweets in response.

Even prior to #BBQbeatscancer’s final total of tweets could be calculated, the The Factory St. Baldrick’s group estimated participation and fundraising in excess of “335 shavees and over $123,000.00 in fundraising”, according to Carol R. Wessler, Accounting Director for Charleston Management Corp., who volunteered to help organize the fundraising group’s efforts. “We had a great turn out and the day was filled with anticipation, excitement and sometimes tears!” added Wessler.

“When we have the opportunity to partner with community groups that excel at accomplishing their charitable goals, we are proud to be able to continue that support as these groups grow and flourish”, explains Richard Averitte, Marketing Director of Smithfield’s Chicken ‘N Bar-B-Q®. “As an individual brand, we’d be hard-pressed to engage the kind of support and dedication that groups like this are able to cultivate in their own backyards, which are in the communities we’re grateful to serve with our locations”, he adds.

Approximately 100 golfers including Tony Tata (N.C. Secretary of Transportation) and other Knightdale officials and business owners came out for a round of golf.

Due to the huge success of the last two years’ events, the charity donation proceeds of the tournament will go to the Knightdale High School PTA so that more students can benefit from the monies raised.

Smithfield’s Chicken ’N Bar-B-Q Knightdale location provided food for the golfers at the banquet that followed.

“The event was a huge success, due in no small part to the generosity of Smithfield’s,” says Jenny Cope, fundraising director for the Planter’s Walk Golf Tournament.

On Mothers Day, pay your most humble tribute to Mother!

Wednesday, May 8th, 2013

Mothers are everything for us when we are small…our lives revolve around her. For everything that we need we call mother. To protect us from all perceivable dangers we want her around us. To take us out we hold her arms. To kiss away our wounds we run to her. And for a warm hug and love we look for her. She is the focal point of our lives, the greatest human being in the world or should we say divinity on earth. On the special occasion of Mothers Day pay tribute to your mother – the greatest blessing of God on you.

Recently Smithfield’s Chicken ‘N Bar-B-Q partnered with Rex Blood Services and supplied food from our Fuquay-Varina location for a blood drive donation at ATI Industrial Automation in Apex.

Katherine and Cynthia Johnson, a mother and daughter who hosted the drive, paid tribute to their late mother and grandmother. Our mother’s have a huge influence on us which stays with us even after they pass away.

Smithfield’s Chicken ‘N Bar-B-Q(R) Supports Rex Blood Center and Donors with Lunches for Volunteers

Thursday, July 19th, 2012

Volunteer blood donors on Monday received delicious support in appreciation for their time and efforts – eastern NC bar-b-q and other SCNB menu favorites

Smithfield’s Chicken ‘N Bar-B-Q® (SCNB) is pleased to announce their recent participation as a meal sponsor for Rex Blood Center in Raleigh, NC. On Monday, July 16, Smithfield’s Chicken ‘N Bar-B-Q® provided lunches for blood drive donors at Rex Blood Center.

Rex Blood Services is a not-for-profit, community blood bank dedicated to providing a safe, adequate blood supply to patients at Rex Hospital and other area hospitals. “When Sandra Brooks of Rex Blood Services came to us and told us that ‘every day in the US, over 32,000 blood transfusions take place’ and that many of them occur in our Triangle-area hospitals, often benefiting patients fighting long-term illnesses such as cancer and sickle cell anemia, we knew we wanted to help support them in whatever way that we, as a restaurant brand, could”, says Richard Averitte, Marketing Director for Smithfield’s Chicken ‘N Bar-B-Q®. “Treating those life-sustaining volunteers who donate blood to lunch, essentially, is something we took great pride in being able to do”, Averitte added.

Sandra Brooks of Rex Blood Services explains from a blood donor’s perspective: “Our donors know that Smithfield’s applauds their volunteerism and community service. They enjoy knowing that these organizations are invested in the lives of people around them.”

Bar-B-Q for a Local Couple’s Big Day

Tuesday, June 21st, 2011

Every now and then we have the wonderful opportunity to hear from a customer who reminds us just how far delicious food and friendly service can go in making one’s day… and sometimes it’s even their BIG DAY!

Check out the email below for a look at how our Siler City location helped save the day recently:

I know that often you hear nothing but complaints, however, I have a praise for Vickie and her staff for an outstanding job and for saving the day. The story is: May 21st was my wedding day and the wedding was outside at our farm for 80 people. What should have been a stress-free event, turned into a nightmare. Our caterer did not show.

My sister-in-law called Smithfield’s in Siler City and placed an order for 80 people with no explanation of why that much food in such a short notice (30 to 45 mins). When they got there, Vickie and her team was working on the order. Vickie asked “what is the event”. My sister-in-law explained and Vickie hurried the team up and packed the back of the SUV in a manner that nothing spilled. The food was there and setup within 10 mins. of the wedding ending. Without Vickie and her team, my wedding would have been a disaster. My words can not express the gratitude that I have for Smithfield’s, Vickie and her team.

Just wanted you know the GREAT job that the Siler City – Smithfield’s is doing.

A heartfelt “Thank you!” and “Congratulations!” go out to the new Mrs. Culberson and her new husband. On behalf of Vickie, everyone at our Siler City location, and the entire Smithfield’s Chicken ‘N Bar-B-Q family, we wish you both a very happy start to your new life together – we were honored to be part of your big day and look forward to serving you and yours again soon!

Planning an engagement party, rehearsal dinner, wedding reception, or any other event for friends and family? We would love assist you so that you can enjoy a stress-free celebration! From four guests to four hundred, we can handle any size catering or special event need you have planned. Please feel free to contact your neighborhood location or email us anytime at Comments@SCNBNC.com and we’ll be happy to help ensure the food and beverage for your guests goes off without a hitch!

Joey O Bocce Classic Raises $33,000 for Cystic Fibrosis, Serves SCNB to Tournament Participants

Thursday, May 12th, 2011

Heartfelt congratulations go out to the volunteers and supporters of the 2011 Joey O Bocce Classic that took place on Sunday, May 1, 2011 at Cardinal Gibbons High School in Raleigh – they have just announced that they were able to raise $33,000 for this most worthy cause… and that number is still growing!

Smithfield’s Chicken ‘n Bar-B-Q was honored to serve as a sponsor and provide bar-b-q and jumbo chicken tender box lunches for all of the tournament participants and as a concession stand option throughout the day’s events.

The Joey O Bocce Classic for Cystic Fibrosis Research was started in 2008 to honor Joe O’Connell who died of complications from Cystic Fibrosis November 11th, 2009. Today, Joe’s family and friends are driven to keep his spirit alive by battling this disease in such a fun and positive way, the same way Joe lived his life. The Classic gives 100 percent of all donations to CF research and related programs.

We captured pictures of lots of bocce participants and supporters enjoying the sunshine and Smithfield’s Chicken ‘n Bar-B-Q – you can view them online on our facebook page or in our Flickr set dedicated to the event.

Workin’ for the Weekend

Monday, April 25th, 2011

Ah yes, it’s Monday again. If you’re not exactly thrilled to be heading back into the work week, maybe this story will help add a little flavor to your week!

A few weeks ago on our facebook page (facebook.com/SCNBNC), we posted:

Facebook Friday! Someone in your office tried one of our Jumbo Chicken Tender Sandwiches and going on and on about it while you are stuck at work? How about we deliver lunch to you and your entire office? Post where your work, location and the number of co-workers in your office. One post will be selected at random and have Jumbo Chicken Tender Sandwiches, Hushpuppies and Tea delivered to their office!

We received lots of comments (and of course, likely made some mouths water), but one lucky lady named Kimberly Erwin instantly became the most popular person in the office when our team randomly picked her submission as our SCNB Office Lunch Winner!

Kimberly works at Time Warner Cable in Morrisville, NC and works with 21 other people in her department.

On Wednesday, our Davis Drive location in Morrisvlle, NC packed up 22 of our brand new Jumbo Chicken Tender Sandwiches, dozens of hushpuppies, and a couple of ice cold gallons of our freshly-brewed sweet iced tea and delivered them a few miles down the road to Kim and gang at Time Warner Cable.

We’re trying to find photographic evidence of their lunchtime delivery, but apparently, tender sandwiches and all the extras were so tempting, that they didn’t last long enough for a picture…

Have we got your mouth watering yet? Good! Because you could be our next SCNB Office Lunch Winner! Simply leave a comment here on this blog, post on our facebook page, or email us at Comments@SCNBNC.com with the name and location of your office, the number of people who work in your department or office, and a clever reason why we should pick your team! Deadline to enter is Friday, May 6th.

Good luck you bar-b-q and chicken tender lovers!
