NCSU Wolfpack #GoPack vs. UNC Tarheels #GoHeels

Saturday October 27th

Smithfield’s Chicken ‘N Bar-B-Q is offering a little friendly competition to two North Carolina universities and benefiting a local non-profit.

Depending on the university that wins this Saturday’s football game, Smithfield’s Chicken ‘N Bar-B-Q will donate a 50 person party pack to a non-profit of their choice.

The winning university’s student body president (UNC Student Body President: Will Leimenstoll @wleimenstoll OR NC State Student Body President: Andy Walsh @WalshPack) will decide how the 50 person party pack will be used. The party pack can be used at any time and in any capacity. It can feed people served by the non-profit, the volunteers of the non-profit, or perhaps as food for a fundraiser for the non-profit.

The 50 person party pack includes:

  • Bar-B-Q
  • Chicken
  • Cole slaw
  • Potato salad
  • Hushpuppies
  • Tea
  • Ice and paper products.

We will also deliver the meal to the non-profit chosen.

Follow the #feedtherivalry on Twitter. Good luck and may the best team win!

All-American glory for fall 2012 tailgate promotions

Tuesday, September 4th, 2012

Smithfield’s Chicken ‘N Bar-B-Q® (SCNB) is excited to announce the launch of their annual fall football promotions, including the always popular Smithfield’s Chicken ‘N Bar-B-Q® photo contest and a new addition to the lineup – The RealTailgate.com College Football podcast.

Smithfield’s Chicken ‘N Bar-B-Q® kicks off the 2012 fall football tailgating season with “The RealTailgate.com College Football Podcast”, sponsored by Smithfield’s Chicken ‘N Bar-B-Q”. Hosted by Demetri Ravanos (host of The Morning Drive on Talk Radio 850)  and Rashim Lee (editor and blogger for sports blog “Bottom of the 4th Quarter”), the weekly podcast will be focusing on college football in North Carolina. In studio guests will include collegiate coaches, college football analysts, other national media hosts and others. Demetri, Rashim and guests will hash out predictions, play-by-plays and the rivalries of the four ACC schools and ECU that the locals either love or hate: Duke, Carolina, NC State, Wake Forest, and ECU. The weekly podcast will be published on RealTailgate.com, theMesh.tv, as well as the iTunes store.

Alan Jackson, executive director of Jackson Group Interactive, who is helping to produce the weekly podcast says, “we are very excited to be working with Smithfield Chicken ‘N Bar-B-Q® on delivering ‘The RealTailgate.com College Football Show’ through our online network of shows and podcasts  on TheMesh.tv.  The show complements the rest of our network’s offerings, and through the MESH network the show will be featured on Apple’s iTunes Podcast Store for people around North Carolina – and around the world – to find and enjoy.”

Smithfield’s Chicken ‘N Bar-B-Q® continues the football season promotional line-up with a entertaining photo contest. Professionals and amateurs alike are encouraged to strike their best Real Tailgate pose for a chance to win tasty prizes from the restaurant brand. Participants are encouraged to shove a box of Smithfield’s chicken under your arm like a football and take a photo while you strike that iconic Heisman pose. Post photos at http://www.facebook.com/scnbnc or http://www.facebook.com/therealtailgate, http://www.realtailgate.com, or e-mail them to contest@scnbnc.com.

Every photo submitted will receive a $10 Smithfield’s gift certificate. In December, Smithfield’s Chicken ‘N Bar-B-Q® will post the five best photos on their Facebook page — if your photo receives the most votes, you’ll win a 20-person Smithfield’s party pack.

“Every season, we try to push the boundaries of traditional marketing a little bit, while still keeping our loyal patrons’ love for our Eastern North Carolina bar-b-q, fried chicken, and real football tailgating in mind”, says Richard Averitte, Marketing Director for Smithfield’s Chicken ‘N Bar-B-Q®. “And if we can add some fun, like with our ‘Strike the Real Tailgate Pose’ promotion’, we’re certainly going to get excited about it”, Averitte added.

The MESH was started by Hickory, North Carolina-based firm Jackson Group Interactive (http://www.jginteractive.com) and is dedicated to providing high-quality programs to a worldwide audience.  All of the shows are produced in North Carolina, with most of the talent and guests also coming from that general area.  JGI handles most of the production tasks, as well as hosting all of the shows on the network and promotion of each episode.  The MESH is currently a “Featured Podcast Provider” on the Apple iTunes Store, alongside major national television and media networks.

A Walk Down Bar-B-Q Memory Lane

Friday, August 26th, 2011

Two weeks ago, we asked folks to share their memories of their first SCNB bar-b-q sandwich with us in exchange for some always handy SCNB gift certificates and a chance to win a bar-b-q lunch for 20 delivered! We got some great submissions – they made us quite nostalgic! Here are some of our favorites:

Jasmine M. on facebook told us:
Age 16! Taste of the Bar-b-q just seemed to melt in my mouth! Big and better difference then the stuff up north! Gotta love Smithfield’s!

James P. left us a comment commemorating his very first visit:
Ate there for the first time ever today, It was great BBQ

Forrest said on our blog:
Stopped on the way to the beach once at the one in Warsaw. Best pulled pork sandwich ever! I make it a point to stop there on the way to the beach with the family every time now.

Dwight left us this great blog comment:
The first time I had the pleasure of sinking my teeth into a pork sandwich was June 2000. My son-in-law was stationed at Cherry Point N.C. in the Marines. They said they found the Barb b que place in N. C. With it I had potato salad and baked beans and they knocked my socks off. Since then I have been ordering products online. Thanks for GREAT products.

Many thanks to every single one of you who left us your comments, shared your stories with us, and continue to allow us to serve you our crowd-pleasing bar-b-q year after year! We hope you enjoy your gift certificates and look forward to announcing our next delicious social media contest soon. College football is right around the corner after all…

Congratulations to Barbara, Last Week’s Football Contest Winner!

SCNB Football Fans

What kind of spreadsheet is that you may ask? Why it’s a Smithfield’s Chicken ‘N Bar-B-Q® contest spreadsheet! The 21 bar-b-q and football fanatics listed above left us a comment on our facebook page, the blog, or on twitter casting their vote for “best football movie” in hopes of winning their film choice on DVD and a $10.00 SCNB gift certificate.

Voters could choose from: Friday Night Lights, Varsity Blues, The Blind Side, Rudy, The Replacements, Little Giants, or “Other” (where they told us their favorite not listed)! So which pigskin flicks did SCNB fans call their favorite? The Blind Side came in at #1, with Rudy in at #2.

Barbara, who commented on the SCNB facebook page, named Rudy as her favorite football movie and was randomly selected to win her choice of movie on DVD and a $10.00 SCNB gift certificate. So thanks for playing along, Barbara!
